Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR)  visited the Women's General Association of Macau on 17 December and was warmly welcomed by the association's president Ho Teng Iat.

The meeting was held on the association's premises, during which MUR representatives presented the progress of the company's three urban renewal projects, with the construction of some parts of the projects due to begin shortly. Both sides had a thorough discussion on urban renewal topics.

MUR board members and engineers gave an outline of the Iao Hon Estate redevelopment project, the Lot P project in Areia Preta to be used for temporary housing and Home Swap programmes, and the layout plan and progress of the Macau New Neighbhourhood (MNN) in Hengqin, so that the community group has a good grasp of the projects’ latest information.

The Women's General Association of Macau President Ho Teng Iat said that urban renewal was a challenging mission.

Taking the redevelopment project of Iao Hon Estate as an example, Ho said that the key element to the realisation of the project is the community’s level of engagement, adding that property owners’ will and property ownership are also factors that could affect the progress of redevelopment.

Ho said that promoting a diversified community service has always been part of her association’s task, and so the association would fully coordinate with urban renewal works as a contribution to building a liveable environment.

MUR Chairperson of the Board of Directors Peter Lam Kam Seng said that the company was conducting face-to-face household interviews with habitants of Iao Hon Estate and a report of the research findings would be completed in the first quarter of next year.

Lam said that MUR would continue visiting the neighbourhood to collect property owners’ contact information and promote urban renewal based on the present legal framework.

Meanwhile, MUR has also recently begun the tendering of the pile foundation testing at Lot P, a reclaimed land in Areia Preta that will be used for temporary housing and Home Swap units. Construction is expected to be carried out early next year and is expected to be completed in about three and a half years.

Regarding the MNN project, MUR has already completed the project’s layout plan and the pre-evaluation process of the main contractors’ qualification, with construction expected to start at the end of the year.

MUR hopes to work with the Women’s General Association in promoting urban renewal. With the association’s years of community experience and assistance, MUR hopes to be able to collect property owners’ contact information and improve the environment of Iao Hon’s old district together.
