A face-to-face interview survey on Iao Hon Estate has been launched for over a month and as of mid-August, Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) has successfully contacted almost 70 percent of Iao Hon Estate’s residents.

MUR has also been contacted by some of the property owners who made an appointment for a meeting with our representatives to go over redevelopment details. MUR sincerely calls on Iao Hon Estate’s property owners, who have not been contacted, to call the company for an appointment so that redevelopment could proceed more quickly for the improvement of residents’ quality of life.

The face-to-face interview survey, conducted between June and August, covered about 2,500 residential and non-residential units of seven blocks of buildings at Iao Hon Estate, which includes Hong Tai House, Kat Cheong House, Son Lei House, Heng Long House, Mau Tan House, Man Sau House and Seng Yee House.

At present, research assistants have successfully interviewed almost 70 percent of the residents. During the survey, property owners, tenants and business traders have given their opinions and raised several issues regarding redevelopment, and were mainly concerned about how the cost of redevelopment would be calculated and what the arrangement would be for residents to move back to their original unit after redevelopment. They also mentioned about the poor environmental hygiene at the estate and the dilapidation of the facilities there.

In recent months, quite a number of property owners have contacted MUR to make an appointment for a meeting to discuss about their property’s ownership matters and redevelopment.

Since a number of residential units in those buildings have been rented out or unoccupied for a long period of time, some residents refused to take part in the survey and in other cases, no one answered the door, which made it more difficult to conduct the survey.

In addition, property owners who are abroad have contacted MUR saying that they would return to Macau to discuss about redevelopment in person after the situation of COVID-19 improves. MUR sincerely calls on Iao Hon Estate’s property owners to contact MUR as soon as they can to make an appointment for a meeting for redevelopment discussion. All personal information collected from the meeting is strictly confidential and would only be used for redevelopment.

For urban renewal to proceed swiftly, MUR has already consulted related government bureaus about the layout plan of the area for the urban planning design of Iao Hon Estate area.
