Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) has assigned a research team to conduct face-to-face household interviews in Iao Hon Estate from June to August to gauge property owners’ and residents’ views and suggestions on redevelopment. The information collected will also serve as a database for the promotion of urban renewal.

Root Planning Cooperative has been assigned to carry out the 10-month research study on Iao Hon Estate, which includes data sorting and analysis. The main members of the research team include urban planner Lam Iek Chit, architect Lui Chak Keong and retired IPM associate professor of social work programme So Man Yum, forming a line-up of professionals with years of experience in the research of Iao Hon Estate.

The face-to-face household interviews cover seven blocks of buildings in Iao Hon Estate, which are Hong Tai House, Kat Cheong House, Son Lei House, Heng Long House, Mau Tan House, Man Sau House and Seng Yee House, involving about 2,500 residential and shop units.

The research team completed preparation works such as the design of the questionnaire used for the household interviews and the research of Iao Hon information in May. Property owners and residents at Iao Hon Estate will soon receive a notification letter and infographics with details about the survey so that they can understand what the arrangement of the survey is and how to identify research assistants.

During the period from June to August, research assistants wearing blue vests embroidered with the words “Research Assistant” and name tags with a staff identification card will go door to door to interview property owners and residents at Iao Hon Estate by questionnaire and gather their views and suggestions on redevelopment. All personal information collected during the research study will be treated as strictly confidential, and the information will only be used for urban renewal.

To speed up the process of urban renewal, MUR has concurrently consulted and sought guidance from related Government entities to carry out the layout plan design for Iao Hon Estate in an attempt to quickly start redevelopment.

Public engagement is the key for urban renewal to be a success. MUR hopes that the community’s associations, property owners, residents and businesses will work together for the urban renewal project to be a successful one. For enquiries regarding the face-to-face household interviews or to book an appointment for the interview, please call the research team on 6881 6044, or call MUR on 2888 2263 during office hours (Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., 2.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.).
