To coordinate with the planning study of Iao Hon Estate, Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) has recently assigned a research team with years of experience in the research of Iao Hon Estate to carry out a 10-month research study.

The professional team is responsible for collecting, sorting and analysing relevant data and views of Iao Hon Estate property owners on urban renewal, with the aim of pushing forward the progress of urban renewal pragmatically.

Iao Hon Estate is located to the east of Avenida da Longevidade,  the south of Seng Yee House and Man Sau House, the west of Estrada dos Cavaleiros, and the north of Rua Oito do Bairro Iao Hon.

The estate contains a total of 2,428 residential units, comprising about 448 units in Hong Tai House, about 400 units in Kat Cheong House, about 224 units in Son Lei House, about 400 units in Heng Long House, about 400 units in Mau Tan House, about 200 units in Man Sau House, and about 356 units in Seng Yee House.

The above-mentioned research study includes investigating the disposition of residential and commercial units, population density, vacancy rate and types of businesses there are at the estate, in addition to the age and gender information of the residents.

Face-to-face household interviews in Iao Hon Estate will tentatively start in May to gauge property owners' and tenants’ views on the urban renewal project and their inclination towards compensation. The whole research study, which will last for a period of 10 months, will be conducted by a professional team.

The ageing and dilapidated estate has been of high to the public and has been extensively discussed in society over the past many years.

As an executing entity responsible for coordinating and promoting urban renewal, the gradual promotion of revitalising the city’s old districts is among MUR’s core tasks. Therefore, MUR will actively collect data through the research study to grasp the wishes of residents on redevelopment, so as to implement urban renewal work that responds to society’s demand for a better environment and an enhanced quality of life of residents in old districts.
